We are growing our Vision team to work with our world-class robotics engineers in crafting the next generation of surgical robotic endoscopes.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will build a team of mechanical engineers within the Vision group, owning design, testing, and launch of an actuated robot-endoscope interface, as well as collaborating to support endoscope engineering managers in the design of chip-on-tip robotic endoscopes. If you enjoy small parts, actuated mechanisms, designing for tight tolerances, tough thermal problems, cleaning and sterilization challenges, and collaboration with optical and electrical colleagues, you will thrive in the RAD Vision group.   • Drive a culture of excellence in mechanical engineering design within the Vision group, characterized by deep technical competence, creativity, rigorous analysis, data-driven decision making, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers designing and launching an autoclavable endoscope-to-robot mechanical interface
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to mechanical engineers embedded in endoscope design and new product introduction teams within the Vision group
  • Own robot-endoscope mechanical interface from design completion through design verification and validation testing
  • Begin work on next-generation robot-endoscope interface architecture
  • Support Endoscope Engineering managers with direct contributions from your Mechanical team as well as assistance in hiring mechanical engineers embedded in their teams
  • Lead and participate in design reviews
  • Lead and support Risk Management activities, including FMEAs to ensure robust and reliable designs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related degree
  • 6 years product development experience
  • Experience designing highly integrated products with tight packaging constraints like chip-on-tip endoscopes, cell phones, tablet computers, electromechanical medical devices, surgical tools, etc.
  • Experience leading complex 3D mechanical product design efforts
  • Experience leading & mentoring a team
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work in the Santa Clara, CA site & travel up to 10%
  • Preferred:

  • Advanced Degree
  • Medical device or other highly regulated industry experience
  • Experience designing:
  • Devices with environmental challenges (extreme temperatures and pressures)
  • Products for cleaning and sterilization
  • Optical or electromechanical devices
  • Surgical instruments or robotic surgical instruments
  • Small products with difficult size and environmental constraints
